Panasonic Outlet: The Truth behind the Name

When you think about consumer electronics, one of the great contenders within this industry is Panasonic. From TVs, radio, digital cameras and so much more, you’d definetely say that their slogan “Ideas for Life” rings true. Formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., it is a multinational consumer electronics corporation with its headquarters based in Kadoma, Osaka, Japan. Needless to say, the bread and butter of it is in electronics manufacturing and some of its products are produce under names Panasonic, National, Technics, variedly. Hence, you’d likely see these brand names in Panasonic outlets.

However, on January 10, 2008, Matsushita announced that it would change the company name to Panasonic Corporation effectively October 1, 2008. Hence all of the other brand names of Masushita were changed to Panasonic brand. This also led to renaming or rebranding of all National and Technics stores into Panasonic outlet stores.

The All Sonic Brand

Before 1955, Matsushita has been known around the world for it’s brand National, which most products are kitchen and home appliances. However, when they wanted to penetrate the Americas market, they could no longer use the National brand as it has been registered by others. Thus came around the creation of the Panasonic brand which came from the elements “pan” meaning “all” and “sonic” which means “sound”. They used this up to market their audio equipments.
